Save water and avoid a fine. The Stage 3 Water Conservation Plan, effective Nov. 1, 2011, through March 31, 2012, mandates that we water our lawns on these Wednesdays only: Feb. 8 and 22 and March 7 and 21.
Under the Stage 3 restrictions, Allen residents may water on only two specific days per month. To reduce the chance of watering on the wrong day, the city recommends that residents keep irrIgation controllers off and use them in the manual mode on the two allowed days each month. Daytime watering (10 a.m.-6 p.m.), not allowed under Stage 2, is permitted on the designated water days November through March. Ben Provencio, alternate village representative, suggest StarCreek residents limit the duration of watering during the 24 hours permitted. "You water, the ground is dry, frozen and hard. If you over water all you will accomplish is water run-off and water flowing into the drain," he says. "Sure this will be helpful to the creek but it does not help your lawn or your water bill. Water in the morning for a little while, and water again in the evening for a short while. If you see water run-off, it's time to stop watering. We need to do what we can so we do not end up in Stage 4 Water Restrictions."
