Allen Police Chief Bill Rushing has announced that for the third time in four years, Allen is ranked among the 10 safest cities in the U.S. The study, based on the FBI's 2010 statistics, examined more than 400 communities with a population of at least 75,000, based on per-capita rates for homicide, robbery, rape, burglary, aggravated assault and motor vehicle theft.

Nationwide, Allen is ranked ninth among cities of 75,000 or more and eighth among cities with populations of 75,000-99,999. Allen was listed first in Texas, making it the safest city in Texas.
