Did you know that Family Circle Magazine recently named Allen as one of the best cities in the country for families? City of Plano police officers reported at the StarCreek Neighborhood Watch meeting on July 2 that overall, crime continues to fall in Allen. Burglary of a motor vehicle is down 12%. Burglary of a habitation is down 8%. Part of reason for this drop is a new criminal task force specifically assigned to these cases as soon as they are reported. Police officers shared:
  • Most burglaries of homes are non-forceable entry. This means that we must remember to lock front and rear entry doors. We must lock doors to the garage because thieves can break into garages very easily.
  • Close shades on all windows and set alarm when leaving. Will this stop thieves? No, but it will make things harder for them to break in and they prefer easy marks.
  • Most break-ins occur between the hours of 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. when most residents are at work.
  • Added safety measures include keeping a record of all electronics -- make, model and serial numbers. And take photos of electronics and jewelry.
